1. Can Army National Guard and Army Reserve Soldiers use Credentialing Assistance?
Yes, eligible Guard and Reserve Soldiers may have access to Army Credentialing Assistance. Eligibility depends on current military status and Army policy, so Service Members should verify their individual eligibility in ArmyIgnitED.
2. Does my certification have to match my MOS?
Not necessarily. Army Credentialing Assistance can be used for eligible credentials listed in Army COOL and the credential does not have to be related to your MOS. This can be a great way to build skills for both your military career and your future civilian career.
3. How much Army Credentialing Assistance funding can I receive?
Eligible Soldiers can receive up to $2,000 per year in Army Credentialing Assistance funding. Soldiers may use CA funding up to three times within a 10-year period, giving you the opportunity to earn valuable industry-recognized credentials that support both your military and civilian career goals.
4. How early should I start my Army COOL/ArmyIgnitED request?
Don't wait until the last minute. Current Army guidance requires CA requests to be submitted at least 45 days before the course or exam start date and no more than 90 days in advance. You'll also need a custom quote from the training provider.
5. Do I need approval from my supervisor or commander before using Army CA?
Yes. As of March 19, 2026, Soldiers must receive supervisor or commander-representative approval for TA and CA requests through the ArmyIgnitED process.
6. What if this is my first time using Army Credentialing Assistance?
First-time CA users have additional steps. Current Army guidance requires completion of ArmyIgnitED CA training and use of the MilGears decision-support tool before requesting funding.
7. Can Airmen and National Guard members use military credentialing benefits too?
Yes. Military credentialing isn't limited to the Army. Air Force COOL supports eligible Airmen, and Army COOL is available to eligible National Guard members as well, in addition to Active Duty Army. 8. I'm near Maxwell AFB, Keesler AFB, NAS Pensacola or an Alabama National Guard unit. Do I have to attend training locally?
No. AristaLearn's online programs are designed so Service Members can participate regardless of where they're stationed. That flexibility is especially useful for Active Duty, Guard and Reserve members balancing duty schedules, deployments, drill weekends and family responsibilities. 9. What's the difference between Credentialing Assistance and Tuition Assistance?
Tuition Assistance funds college coursework toward a degree, while Credentialing Assistance funds standalone professional certifications, like PMP, Security+, or CompTIA credentials, that don't require enrollment in a degree program. They're separate benefits with separate funding caps.
